Ellen O'Neill of Volunteers of America will be at EGFBS on Thursday, March 8, 2012, 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to inform people about this new service available for veteran families.

This program is funded by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, the SSVF program is administered through Volunteers of America to provide supportive services to extremely low or very low-income veteran families (those with minor children) residing in or transitioning to permanent housing. These outreach and case-management services are designed to improve veteran families' housing stability, and also are designed to prevent at-risk families from becoming homeless.

These services may include assistance with:
  • Health care
  • Daily living
  • Personal financial planniing
  • Transportation
  • Fiduciary and payee
  • Legal issues
  • Child care
  • Housing
  • Temporary financial assistance to prevent or resolve homelessness

A veteran is defined as a person who has served in any branch of the Armed Forces of the United States. You are a veteran even if you were never stationed in a combat zone, and regardless of your discharge status. However, SSVF cannot assist those who were dishonorably discharged.
