Youngest Sponsor Ever For Run 4 Independence

Nine year old Jacob Martin, student of St. Elizabeth Anne Seton Catholic School, is raising money in support of our Run 4 Independence. Recently, Jacob visited our warehouse facility to see for himself what it takes to distribute food to the hungry in Elk Grove. He shadowed volunteers and learned about sorting canned goods.

Jacob likes to help people, and decided to support EGFBS because he wants to help people in his community. He has been informing his network of family and friends about the services our organization provides, and is collecting donations. This young man is working his way to making a difference in the Elk Grove area.

Jacob's personal goal is to raise $200 in support of our Run 4 Independence. He is almost half way there! Thank you, Jacob, for your work to help people in Elk Grove.

When You Leave a Message

T was trying to retrieve the messages from our voice mail system. She was having a difficult time, "Could you listen for the phone number on this message, I can't make it out." I listened to the message, it was a client looking for information about our emergency food distribution. She desperately needed food and wanted a call back; but I could not make out her phone number. She said her name and number so quickly that both pieces of vital information could not be understood.

T was clearly frustrated. "We could have helped her. I would have called her back and helped her with information about receiving food." "Why did she say her phone number so fast?"

Our staff and volunteers at EGFBS are committed to helping those who are hungry and in need of assistance. Please, if you are leaving a message on our voice mail, speak clearly and slowly. We do not have caller id, and if we cannot understand your message, our caring volunteers cannot contact you.

Mayors' Charity Casino Night - The Results

The Mayor of Elk Grove, Steve Detrick, presented us with the proceeds of his Charity Casino Night. Members of EGFBS Board of Directors and Executive Director, Marie Jachino, were on hand to receive the check. The photo above was taken in our warehouse facility on Dino Drive.

Many thanks to our Mayor, his committee, volunteers, and those who attended this fund raising event. This creative and fun event was heavily attended; those on the committee planned a beautiful, engaging event and every guest was treated like a "high roller".

Again, it is only through the kind, on-going support of our community and elected officials that the Food Bank is able to serve those that are going through hard times.

Just a Loaf of Bread

E was approached by a client in the parking lot. She had received food from EG Food Bank toward the beginning of the month, and these groceries had run out. It was near the end of the month, and could she please get just a loaf of bread to get through the few days until next month?

E arranged for this client to receive an emergency bag of food. She wept with thanks and relief when she received the food.

Here are the guidelines for food distribution at EG Food Bank. We are in the business of "providing essential resources to overcome the many faces of hunger and human need." Staff and volunteers do their best to carry out this Mission.

E's compassion and actions are an example of what we do at Elk Grove Food Bank Services.
