After-Hours Business Mixer

 Elk Grove Chamber of Commerce  held their After-Hours Business Mixer in our warehouse.  Elk Grove Citizen hosted the event and the food was as delicious as it was beautiful.

The Chamber members met here at EG Food Bank, and they brought with them turkeys and canned food donations.  Elk Grove Citizen hosted the event; the food and beverage service was wonderful.  We never would imagine having such elegant fare here in our warehouse. 

 

Thank you, Chamber Members, for your generous donations.  Your kindness has helped some of our neighbors gather their families around the table and truly have a happy Thanksgiving. 

 



2012 Turkey Drive

It’s hard to imagine Thanksgiving without a roasted turkey.  Yet with the rising food costs, a Thanksgiving celebration may be out of reach for more than 800 families in Elk Grove.  With support from the community, the Elk Grove Food Bank Services (EGFBS) has the programs in place to provide turkeys to those in need.

Individuals, businesses and organizations can help bring families together around the holiday table. These generous contributions can make a real difference in the lives of families struggling in this difficult economic climate.

 

Elk Grove residents can help their local Food Bank this Thanksgiving these following ways: 

November 5-19:  Turkey Drive

9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
EGFBS facility – 9820 Dino Drive, Suite 140

Please consider dropping off a frozen turkey, chicken or any non-perishable side dish such as potatoes, green beans, cranberry sauce, stuffing, etc. 

 
November 20:  Turkey Distribution
9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
EGFBS facility – 9820 Dino Drive, Suite 140

In times of uncertainty, helping families come together for Thanksgiving has never been so important. 

 

2011 Turkey Donations and Distribution

Elk Grove CVS employees donated 150 turkeys for our Thanksgiving turkey distribution. Jill Gridley, Regional District Manager, said that when she realized that EGFBS is the local food bank for the Elk Grove area, she knew where to deliver the turkeys donated by the employees in her Region.

We distributed approximately 615 turkeys (200 more than last year). Our faithful volunteers made this year's donation and distribution process an efficient, effective and fun time.

We at the EG Food Bank are truly touched by the faithful work of local officials, organizations, and businesses who stepped up to provide our neighbors with food for their Thanksgiving celebration.

To those who collected and donated turkeys: our volunteers and staff who worked on Turkey Distribution Day convey the sincere thanks from our neighbors who came to receive. We thank you for giving locally.

And to volunteers and staff who distributed turkeys: I wonder if a "Thank You" from our organization could match the grateful and sincere thanks you received from the recipients of the turkeys. We thank you for your time, your caring and your faithfulness.

When we think about the enormous amount of food distributed, and the incredible number of families and individuals served; we step back and take a breath. Thank you to all involved in the donation and distribution of Thanksgiving turkeys; we couldn't do it without you.

2011 Turkey Drive

Our staff and volunteers are busy preparing for what we expect to be our busiest holiday season in our organization's history. We are collecting the fixings for a Thanksgiving celebration to be distributed to our growing number of clients. This year the need in the Elk Grove community is even greater, with an increase of 40 percent among seniors and children.

We at Elk Grove Food Bank distribute groceries to our local community, all food collected will go to our neighbors in need. If you are able to donate and want to help us, please consider the following:

November 19: Council Member Sophia Scherman's 4th Annual Turkey Drive

Council member Scherman has been collecting turkeys for the Food Bank since 2007. She and her husband, Lee, have made this an annual event rain or shine.

Turkey Drive 2010 - The Results

We stood there on Tuesday afternoon, tired from the hard work of handling turkeys donated by the Elk Grove community. Our Operations Manager quickly added up the rough numbers, EG Food Bank distributed over 600 turkeys over three days.


The distribution started with a “soft” opening on Saturday with the help of MV Transportation and Grocery Outlet. Sixty Thanksgiving Dinner Boxes were distributed. On Monday we distributed about 260 turkeys. Tuesday we gave out roughly 170 turkeys. Approximately 110 turkeys were distributed through our Wellness Bag and Senior Brown Bag programs.

Turkey Drive 2010 broke last year’s records: the largest amount of turkeys donated and distributed.

Turkey Drive 2010

This looks to be the most challenging and demanding Thanksgiving in our organization’s history. We have been collecting turkeys and the fixings for Thanksgiving dinner since the first of November.

Our walk-in freezer is empty. We have lots of room for turkeys.

If you are able, please help us provide turkey dinner for local families in need. Your donation will help provide a holiday meal for which a family can truly be thankful, and count as one of their blessings.

EGFBS is open Monday thru Thursday, 10:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. to receive donations. (We will close on Thursday, November 11, 2010, for Veterans' Day.)
