Cosumnes Firefighters' Association Sock Drive - 700 pairs of socks

Andy Shepard, from Cosumnes Firefighters' Association, delivered nearly 700 pairs of socks to Elk Grove Food Bank Services.  These socks are the result of their month-long Socks for the Homeless Drive.

Thanks to Cosumnes Firefighters Association and the communities of Elk Grove and Galt for their generous donations that will help many of our area's homeless.  Thank you also to Elk Grove Ford for sponsoring the event. 

Cosumnes Firefighters Association Helping EG's Homeless

The Cosumnes Firefighters Association will be conducting their Second Annual Socks for the Homeless Drive, March 1 - 31, 2012.

If you are able to participate, bring new white socks to the fire stations listed below to benefit the homeless. Monetary donations will also be accepted.

Clothing donations rarely include socks, which can be important to a person's health and well-being. Prolonged use of dirty, wet and worn socks can lead to fungal and bacterial infections, frostbite and blisters. Much of our homeless clients' life is spent on foot; imagine how your simple donation can make a big difference in an individual's life.

The event is also made possible by the generous contributions from Elk Grove Ford, facilitating signage and collection bins at all three stations.

Elk Grove Rotary is Warmly Appreciated

Elk Grove Rotary generously donated socks, caps and gloves for children this holiday season.

Patty Suter made the delivery on behalf of the Elk Grove Rotary.

Ron and Patty Suter also made a personal donation for the purchase of adult socks and gloves.

With economic conditions putting tighter financial restraints on families, many of our neighbors can't afford to purchase these items. Our clients will have warm heads, hands and feet thanks to Elk Grove Rotary and the Suters.

P. S. We appreciate EG Rotary and the Suter's continued support. Last year the Rotary purchased toys (along with the Suter's) for distribution by EG Food Bank.

Sock Hop Socks and More!

Senior Center of Elk Grove, Inc. Executive Director, Pat Beal, brought over the socks that were donated at their recent Sock Hop. The kind seniors who attended the event donated over 50 pairs of socks that will keep our clients' feet warm, dry and comfortable.




Pat, who is always looking for ways to help EGFBS, heard about our need for personal care products, especially dental care essentials. She asked her dentist for a donation and received 50 gift bags of dental products.

Needs at the Clothes Closet

Our usually bubbly and upbeat Clothes Closet program manager, Susan, has been a bit subdued lately. The Clothes Closet is very low on socks, underwear and shoes for children, and she is concerned about the shortage.

"These items are usually donated new, and these donations have not been coming in." Susan related her worry for our youngest clients. "We cannot fill client requests for these necessary items and these little ones have to go without."

If you are able, please consider donating a package of child-sized socks, underwear, or a pair of shoes to our Clothes Closet.
