The Third Annual Ribfest Fundraiser held by Elk Grove DeMolay will be on Saturday, July 27, 2013, at The Sacramento Shrine Center, 3262 Marysville Boulevard, Sacramento, CA  95815.  Cost for the event is $20; proceeds benefit Elk Grove Food Bank Services and Sacramento Shriners Hospital.

All Signed Up For the Run

I am not quite sure if all of my kids will be in town on Saturday, June 30th.  I signed them all up for the 5K anyway.  So its my Hub in the 10K, and the three kids and me in the 5K.  I'll be walking (slowly). 

If you are able, please come out to support Elk Grove Food Bank Services by walking or running in our Run 4 Independence.  This event is our biggest fundraiser of the year and has an event for all ages:  Kids' 1/4 and 1/2 mile fun run, 5K run/walk, and a 10K.

Cookie Sale

Michael and Meaghan’s mother and older sister came into our offices to tell us about their fundraising activities in Wilton. For their eighth grade confirmation project at St. Vincent De Paul, Michael and Meaghan decided to do some fundraising for Elk Grove Food Bank Services. The enterprising duo baked cookies and sold them at Dillard Store. They received support for their efforts from store management and from the Wilton community. They sold out in a couple of hours and raised $60.02 with help from the kindhearted people in Wilton.

With this success, Michael and Meaghan plan on more cookie sales in the future. Keep an eye out for them. I heard that the oatmeal raisin cookies are really great.

Thank you Michael and Meaghan for raising money to help your local food bank. If you want to join these civic-minded young people and help us serve those in need in our community, our website has some suggestions.

Elk Grove Bowling Extravaganza

The Bowling Extravaganza Charity Event was fantastic! There was such a great mix of people from our community and many who came out for the first time to support us. Everyone I talked with is looking forward to the event next year.




The following is part of a press release written about the event:

"Elk Grove Mayor Steve Detrick, Vice Mayor Jim Cooper and Council member Gary Davis hosted the Elk Grove Bowling “Extravaganza” Charity Event benefiting Elk Grove Food Bank Services and Elk Grove Together on Friday, August 26, 2011, at Strikes in Elk Grove.

The sold-out charity bowling event, with 44 teams, was preceded by a reception for the event’s sponsors. They included Brookhurst Development, Pappas Investments, Niemi Capital Partners LLC, Nacht & Lewis Architects, Remy, Thomas, Moose and Manley, LLP, Thomas P. Winn Foundation, RCH Group, St. Anton Partners, Pacific Municipal Consultants (PMC), USA Properties and Cunningham Engineering Corp.

Bill Niemi of Niemi Capital Partners LLC and Ardie Zahedani of the RCH Group were the event’s co-title sponsors.

Prizes were awarded in three categories: Men’s, Women’s and Mixed. Impact Community Church, with three teams, was the big winner of the night, winning in the Men’s and the Women’s categories. The teams from Pappas Investments, Brookhurst Development and PMC were prize winners in the Mixed Team Category. Other winners in the Men’s Category were the Cosumnes Community District Team 2 with team captain Bob Roessler, Administrator of Parks and Recreation Department.

Speaking to the 200 guests at the reception, Zahedani stated he was extremely pleased at the outpouring of support by the corporate sponsors.

Detrick, Cooper, Davis, along with Zahedani and the Elk Grove Community Connection will be hosting a Sponsors’ Reception at the Elk Grove Food Bank Services on September 7 at 6:00 p.m. to present the donation check to the entire food bank board."

Fundraising Bike Tour

Seven people from Elk Grove will be bicycling across Iowa to raise funds for homeless people in our area. They will be riding in the 39th annual Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI). Over 10,000 bicyclers will be participating in the seven-day ride that covers 472 miles and includes 21,406 feet of climbing.

John Platt, Penny Pinard, Dave Hieronimus, Arnie Vierra, John van Doren, Wendy Wyles and Frank Lucia will be pedaling for PATH (People Assisting The Homeless), a program provided by Elk Grove Food Bank Services.

PATH is a program that assists homeless families and individuals. The Program helps clients out of homelessness, provides basic necessities, connects clients to local resources, provides case management, and assistance in learning life skills. The goal of PATH is to assist the homeless population of Elk Grove towards self-sufficiency and greater independence.

EGFBS is accepting donations to sponsor these "magnificent seven" across Iowa. 100 percent of all donations contributed will go directly to assisting the homeless in Elk Grove through the PATH program. The cyclists suggest several options to support their efforts:

1. Contribute an amount on a per mile basis. RAGBRAI is 472 miles.
   
2. Make a donation for each day of the ride. The "seven" will be pedaling for seven days.
   
3. Consider a donation for the age of the eldest member of the team - John Platt is 75 years old and will be riding in his ninth RAGBRAI.

Charity Casino Night

Elk Grove's dynamic duo, Mayor Steve Detrick and Vice Mayor Jim Cooper, have organized a Charity Casino Night benefiting Elk Grove Food Bank Services. The event will be held on Friday, April 8, 2011, at Strikes Family Entertainment on Laguna Boulevard. The fun starts at 7:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m.

Our local Chick-fil-A on Bond Road is holding a benefit for EGFBS on Monday, February 28, 2011, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Twenty percent of all purchases during this time will be donated to the Food Bank. Remember to put your receipt into their donation box!

Empty Bowls

Our Third Annual Empty Bowls Luncheon will be held on
Saturday, March 12, 2011
at First Baptist Church of Elk Grove,
from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
There will be a live auction and raffle.
Tickets are $25 per adult, $15 per child.

If an Empty Bowls fundraiser is unfamiliar to you, here is how we do it:

• Local restaurants donate and serve their tasty, original soups. To round out the menu, other organizations have donated salad, bread and dessert.
• Beforehand, bowls are made and donated by local artists and community supporters. You can donate your original creation, visit local ceramic studios, Color Me Mine and I Made It! These generous sponsors let “creative donors” paint bowls for $10, a special reduced price.
• Ticket holders may select a bowl to take home on the day of the luncheon to remind them of the “Empty Bowls” that exist in our community.
• All proceeds benefit Elk Grove Food Bank Services.
